RIP to this exceptionally talented entertainer who many of us remember well from younger days.

I especially like his younger days, when he sang Ben, I'll Be There and ABC. I even remember the Jackson Five.
RIP, Jacko. There are 10 kinds of people: those who can do binary arithmetic, and those that can't. |

So much talent such a horrible upbringing. Not surprising when you father is actual Satan incarnate:

He's a tragic case example. It's Michael Jackson night on music TV here, and I'm watching the little Michael singing "ABC" and "I
want you back." It's weird to think this person is going to be super-spectacularly successful creatively and financially, one of the most famous
entertainers ever, and yet have such a totally fucked up, disturbed life.

As AJ pointed out, it tends to happen when your dad is like his dad.
He had so much talent that not even a shitty upbringing could stop him, though. That kind of talent is a force of nature.

They're having Michael Jackson marathons on the radio here. My wife totally loved him. Thriller was my favorite of his works, and one of the best videos
ever made. Terrible loss of talent. He wasn't that old either.

VH1 Classic has a weekend marathon, and MTV is airing all his videos.

Tensions are high in Hollywood tonight as they know these things tend to happen in 3's.

Well, Farrah is gone, she beat Michael, so that just leaves one more. My money is on Burt Reynolds.
One interesting thing about this to me is that if any other person widely suspected of being a child molester had died, people would be cheering. Goes to show how much people will forgive if you can sing and dance like nobodies business. There's hope for Gary Glitter yet... ok, maybe not. |

Best-selling Albums WorldwideIt is utterly amazing that MJ more than doubled anyone else contending for the top spot of all time best selling album worldwide. That kind of margin is almost unbelievable. Peace, AJ

I have to say I was never especially convinced by the molestation accusations. I think Jackson sincerely loved the company of children and of course he was
childlike in many ways himself. I may hold this view purely because I'd rather not think badly of him in that way, but I'm not at all convinced.

I agree with Dan. I was not convinced, either. He may have been guilty, but I never saw a strong case.
Also, I had no idea AC/DC had sold so many records. Sweet.

AC/DC are Australian; of course they sold lots of records. Sheesh. Their stats were public record before the global conspiracy to hide the success of other
Australian singers and bands. Geniuses like, um, Air Supply and the unsurpassed Little Pattie.

The trio is complete. Ed McMahon, FF and MJ. I feel sorry for FF. She hasn't gotten any attention as MJ has shadowed her. There are 10 kinds of people: those who can do binary arithmetic, and those that can't. |

I watched one of the publicized trials, and I'm convinced the kid's mother orchestrated the whole thing. Using your son to extort money from a celebrity? What an asshole. MJ was quite naive about these things. There are 10 kinds of people: those who can do binary arithmetic, and those that can't. |

The man was quite talented. I remember getting the double CD History set around when it came out. In high school my friends and I listened
to a lot of pop music of the '80s and a number of MJ's songs (Thriller, Beat It, Billy Jean, etc.) were on heavy rotation. Good memories.

Sher: I watched one of the publicized trials, and I'm convinced the kid's mother orchestrated the whole thing. Using your son to extort money from a celebrity? What an asshole. MJ was quite naive about these things. That's sort of what I think too. (The mother was an extorter.) However, a young boy may feel it a privilege to receiving a fondling from such a celebrity...
(It's just a story... With MJ, I liked his juvenile dance move/grooves/antics --- but I'm hesitant to him. Maybe I would have liked him more if his last album was more "innocent", rather than "invincible"...) Bleh...

The real and surely most compelling question here is, how much time has to pass before MJ jokes are ok?

A lot more than has already passed.

I just don't know. I think it is highly probable, especially with the bed ordeal and the whole theme park thing.
And I really lost a lot of respect for him when he dangled that baby over the edge. Talented though, without a doubt. |
