Appreciate the input, HB, but I decided to just bite the bullet and post the vids. This young bloke comes across as a more reasonable and intellectual Xian
Youtube apologist, but in truth, it's all in his lexicon. His arguments are actually the same gibberish as offered by the more overt wankers you find at
Youtube. I'm not really prepared to show him much tolerance just because he can say big words. Anyone who claims, as he repeatedly does, that there
can't be moral judgements if there is no absolute or objective source for morality needs his head beaten with a pillow full of bricks

Not bad Dan. I'm not sure what you were talking about when you were saying that oughts are facts of reality. And it isn't quite right to say that
science hasn't answered the question of where our oughts come from. Its pretty clear at this point that our morals have an evolutionary origin, based on
observations of moral instinctual behavior in primates. You might want to check out the work by Mark Hauser and Frans de Waal for more detail about the
evolution of morality.

Dan,
What's the up/down/sidereal-shot on this case? Did he respond in anyway? Peace, AJ

He did a 24 minute response covering the various responses he got.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rn187GjFbo I don't think he bothered to mention my own responses but I didn't watch all of it either. He basically dodges and weaves around the very good arguments he got from various people and ended up shifting the ground to the issue of intrinsic values (or that even subjective normative facts must somehow arise from that realm). Anyway, it seems now he's talking about bailing from Youtube altogether over some sort of bullshit drama. |
